The show, which was filmed in Syria and directed by Mohamad Abdulaziz, is set to premiere exclusively on OSN.
Weyyak has announced the completion of its first in-house Arabic premium production, titled Share’a Chicago or Chicago Street.
Initially planned for a Ramadan release, Chicago Street was delayed as a timely release would have led to a compromise in production quality, the makers of the show said.
The protagonist of the series, played by Sulaf Fawakherji, is a free-spirited and blind lady named Miramar who runs away from her family to follow her dreams. She meets Murad with whom a new story filled with hope, risks and love begins. Murad is played by both Abbas Al Noury and Mehyar Khaddour.
The show also jumps between two time periods to contrast modern-day life with the not-so-distant past. Additionally, the supporting cast is complemented by several Syrian stars who are working together for the first time, including; Doureid Laham, Amal Arafah, Shoukran Mortaja, Wael Ramadan, Nazli Al Rawas, Juan Al Kheder and Fayez Qazak.
The series has been co-produced in collaboration with Kaband Media. It was filmed in Syria and directed by Mohamad Abdulaziz. Chicago Street is set to premiere exclusively on OSN, after which it will be added to Weyyak’s selection of content, available to watch on-demand.
Nadine Samra, Chief Business Officer at Weyyak, described the completion of the production as an achievement for the team and the industry. “We are extremely happy and excited to see the completion of Chicago Street at such a critical time. Chicago Street is another example of our grit and dedication to always delivering the best viewing experience and premium content to the Arab audience across the globe.”
Sarah Btaddini, Associate Director for Digital Content, remarked: “One of the finest series produced of late in our region. We pushed the boundaries for Syrian drama, to create a different experience altogether for the viewer. This is the strategy that we aim to follow going forward.”
