The six-episode series includes intimate interviews with influential music figures who have played a pivotal role in shaping the country’s musical identity.
XP Music Futures, in partnership with Badiya Studio, has launched a new docuseries titled Ashoo, which offers an exploration of Saudi Arabia’s thriving music scene. Directed by Chndy and Abu Hamdan, the series aims to provide an authentic and unfiltered view of the Kingdom’s cultural landscape, focusing on the unique sounds and untold stories emerging from its streets.
The six-episode series premiered its first episode on August 10, featuring intimate interviews with key figures who have significantly contributed to shaping Saudi Arabia’s musical identity. As the nation prepares to celebrate Saudi National Day, Ashoo serves as a tribute to the country’s cultural heritage.
In a joint statement, directors Chndy and Abu Hamdan emphasised the importance of capturing these often overlooked stories. “Our goal was to present these narratives as authentically and honestly as possible, allowing individuals to share their experiences in their own words. Through this approach, we’ve been able to highlight the raw emotions, passion, history, and love that these individuals have for their craft.”
The first two episodes of Ashoo have already been released. The debut episode, titled Jalsat Tarab, introduces viewers to the world of traditional drums and harmonic melodies, showcasing a group of musicians who have perfected their craft through years of improvisation and dedication. The second episode, Khabiti, released last week, delves into Saudi folk music and culture, highlighting the enduring significance of artistic heritage in the nation’s identity.
New episodes of Ashoo will be released weekly, with the final episode set to premiere on Saudi National Day, September 23.
