Olebe will report to Tara Walpert Levy, YouTube’s VP of Americas, who oversees content partnerships.
YouTube named Google exec Leo Olebe the new global head of gaming, the unit that encompasses gaming-related content and partnerships, including livestreaming.
Olebe is expected to formally begin at YouTube later this year. He replaces Ryan Wyatt, who left earlier this year for crypto startup Polygon Studios.
Olebe most recently was managing director for the games partnerships team for Google Play, where he and his team worked with games developers and publishers worldwide to help them build experiences on Google Play.
He previously spent more than five years at Facebook, where he led the company’s global games partnerships and business development and launched Facebook Gaming’s Black gaming creator programme.
Before Facebook, Olebe also held positions at Electronic Arts and Zynga.
Olebe will report to YouTube’s vice president of Americas, Tara Walpert Levy, according to an email from the company. He is also a board member of Games for Change, a nonprofit organisation that facilitates real-world social change through games and the gaming community.
