Zee announced the official launch of its first radio station in the UAE at an event held on February 27, 2017. The event hosted the stations resident MJs (music jockeys) and Bollywood celebrity musicians, who will be hosting the shows at the new station.
The radio channel which operates at the frequency of 106.2 is called big FM under the Zee umbrella. It targets the South Asian community with its Hindi-language content and celebrity MJs. Zee acquired the channel, earlier known as Hum 106.2 FM, last year and brought in a fresh set of talent to create and present the content.
With this launch, Zee claims to introduce a new radio culture in the UAE, according to Mukund Cairae, CEO, Zee Network (MENA and APAC).
We have musicians along with each of our resident MJs so they also provide their perspective on the music being played, and this has not been done here before, he said.
Having a radio arm also creates a bigger and more diverse portfolio for Zee.
Cairae added: Now we can offer media across television, radio and digital platforms. This investment also shows our commitment to the region and its business landscape.
A common initiative can now have a 360-degree audio visual exchange through platforms owned by Zee.
