The special programming slate will include the premiere of two original web series, ‘Gondya Ala Re’ in Marathi-language, ‘Satyameva Jayate’ in Bengali-language as well as an eclectic mix of shows.
ZEE5 will be launching two original web series to mark the Indian Independence Day.
The shows Gondya Ala Re in Marathi-language and Satyameva Jayate in Bengali-language that will be premiering globally are based on important chapters in the history of India.
Following the success of the saga Hutatma, ZEE5 is all set to premiere yet another Marathi-language original, Gondya Ala Re.
Directed by Ankur Kakatar, starring Bhushan Pradhan, Kshitish Dat, Shivaji Vaichal, Anand Ingale and Sunil Barve; the series globally premieres on ZEE5 this August 15, 2019.
The series is a historical thriller that tells the story of the three Chapekar brothers of Pune who became the first youth armed revolutionaries on the nation.
The heroic tale of the Chapekar brothers has echoed through India’s history. This web series will transport readers back in time, to the famine struck city of Pune in the state of Maharashtra in 1896. Following a deadly outbreak of a plague in Pune, the Colonial government decided to put together a special committee to curb the epidemic. Headed by W.C. Rand, the SPC (Special Plague Committee) was charged with the task of taking control of the situation. What begun as standard preventive measures, went on to become barbaric acts of extermination, inciting outrage and igniting the spirit of revolution amongst the hearts of the youth, like the Chapekar brothers.
Another series that will have its premier this Independence Day is Sataymev Jayate, a 7-episode Bengali-language thriller web series about how justice prevails even in a corrupt system. The series, directed by Arindam Sil features actors Arjun Chakraborty, Souraseni Moitra, Vipin Sharma, Jayant Kriplani and Sudipta Chakraborty.
Commenting on these releases, Archana Anand, Chief Business Officer, ZEE5 Global said: “We’re curating the most compelling stories to take to our global audiences, and history has provided us with some truly inspirational stories that just need to be told like ‘Gondya Ala Re’. This, along with Satyamev Jayate and other carefully handpicked shows make for a very strong lineup for our audiences around the world this Independence Day.”
As part of this lineup, ZEE5 will also feature the world digital premiere of The Tashkent Files, a thriller movie starring Naseeruddin Shah, Mithun Chakraborty, Shweta Basu Prasad, Mandira Bedi, Pallavi Joshi, Vinay Pathak, and Pankaj Tripathi. This thriller outlines the conspiracy theories surrounding the mysterious death of former Indian Prime Minister, Lal Bahadur Shastri.
Another Independence Day special lined up by ZEE5 is the story of the Samyukta Maharashtra movement and the struggles of the Marathi manus (common man), as Maharashtra came into existence with Bombay as its capital, with the Marathi Original series Hutatma.
The Independence Day Special also includes web series that mark some of India’s most important historical moments including Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran, and India’s struggle to independence with Gandhi My Father.
