The film, which marks the directorial debut of Baba Azmi, made its premiere on August 21 on the streaming platform.
Zee5 Global’s original film Mee Raqsam has been selected as the opening film for the Coalition of South Asian Film Festivals (CoSAFF) 2020. The film made its premiere on August 21 on the streaming platform.
CoSAFF brings together seven South Asian Film Festivals from across North America to produce one unified film festival, which will be held entirely online.
Mee Raqsam, which stands for ‘I Dance’, is a family drama that revolves around the relationship shared by a father and his teenage daughter. It is the story of a young girl’s aspiration to become a dancer, but coming from a small village like Mijwan, everyone questions her dreams and choices. It’s only her father who trusts, supports and helps her achieve her ultimate dream.
Earlier this year, the film had an exclusive screening and well-known industry personalities Aamir Khan, Vidya Balan, Varun Dhawan, Manish Malhotra, Mahesh Bhatt, David Dhawan and many more graced their presence and were all praises for the film.
The film marks the directorial debut of Baba Azmi. The Hindi feature film is shot in Mijwan near Azamgarh and its surrounding areas.
Commenting on the development, Shabana Azmi said: “To see the amount of love the audience has showered us from across the globe, it has been an overwhelming journey the past couple of weeks. It was the first film I was presenting a film and is a homage/tribute to our father Kaifi Azmi who was one of the torchbearers of India’s composite culture which the film celebrates. To see Aditi being such an inspiration to so many young girls in Mijwan, Mee Raqsam has offered hope to all those girls across the country. Adding to the celebrations, with CoSAFF 2020 recognising the hard work by making it the opening film for the festival, I hope we can reach out to more people and spread the message of hope and desire.”
