Blackmagic Design has unveiled its latest innovation, the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K, offering a solution for high-end digital filmmaking. This cutting-edge camera boasts a full-frame 6K sensor, 13 stops of dynamic range, an L-Mount lens mount, and dual native ISO up to 25,600 for low-light performance. It’s equipped to record onto CFexpress cards.
The Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K features a massive 24 x 36mm 6K sensor, delivering high image quality in a portable and lightweight design. Its L-Mount lens mount provides compatibility with a wide range of both new and vintage lenses, allowing for creative flexibility.
One of the camera’s standout features according to Blackmagic Design is its precise rendering of skin tones and organic colours. It incorporates a full-frame 24 x 36mm 6K sensor with a generous dynamic range and a custom-designed optical low pass filter to match the sensor. Additionally, it records both deep bit depth Blackmagic RAW and H.264 proxies simultaneously for cloud and mobile workflows.
With a native resolution of 6048 x 4032, the large full-frame sensor enables shooting with a shallow depth of field and supports anamorphic lenses without cropping, resulting in cinematic, high-resolution images. The camera offers 13 stops of dynamic range with dual native ISO up to 25,600, ensuring high image quality in various lighting conditions. It can capture footage at up to 36 fps at full sensor resolution or 120 fps in a windowed mode.
The Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K enables filmmakers to work in different film formats and aspect ratios without compromising quality. Users can leverage the full sensor area for an open gate 3:2 image, reframe shots in post-production, and shoot in true 6:5 anamorphic without cropping. The camera also provides a Super 35-sized window on the sensor for instant close-up shots that seamlessly integrate with open gate footage.
Designed with the advanced L-Mount, the camera accommodates full-frame sensors while ensuring compatibility with various lens mounts through adapters.
The camera supports a wide range of resolutions and frame rates, including HD, DCI 4K, and 6K. It can even capture stills at 24.6 megapixels and offers high-speed shooting up to 120 fps in 1080HD.
For recording media, the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K features a built-in CFexpress card recorder and a USB-C expansion port for external flash media disks or SSD recording. Users can record over an hour of full-resolution 6K footage on a single 256GB CFexpress card.
To enhance the shooting experience, the camera boasts a large 5-inch HDR touchscreen with on-screen overlays for monitoring various parameters. It offers 3D LUT support for customised looks and has a brightness of 1500 nits for optimal visibility, even in bright sunlight.
Additionally, the camera includes a high-quality 1280 x 960 colour OLED display with a built-in proximity sensor and a diopter for precise focus adjustment. The camera uses NP-F570 batteries and a locking DC power connector for a reliable power supply.
