The RS3 Pro is now available starting at $870 or $1,100 in a combo with an extended quick release plate, phone holder, focus motor and kit, Ronin Image Transmitter and more.
DJI has announced its latest gimbal stabilisers, introducing the Ronin RS 3 and Ronin RS 3 Pro, with a raft of new improvements and design features to enhance performance.
Inheriting features of the Ronin series, DJI RS 3 Pro is an advanced, comprehensive camera expansion platform that provides coordinated shooting solutions for professional crews.
RS 3 Pro uses extended carbon fiber axis arms to allow more balancing space for professional cameras, making it suitable for cameras like the Sony FX6 or Canon C70 with 24-70mm F2.8 lenses.
The key new feature over the RSC 2 is an automatic locking system that releases and unfolds the gimbal when it’s turned on, then folds and locks it when turned off.
The Ronin RS 3 weighs in at 1.3kg (2.8lbs), with a payload capacity of 3kg (6.6lbs) should cover most cameras.
The RS3 and RS 3 Pro also share new features such as wireless shutter control and an all-new focus motor in addition to some model-specific upgrades.
The DJI Ronin RS 3 Pro is the company’s flagship gimbal and is constructed from one piece of uncut carbon fibre, making it lighter than the jointed material used on previous Ronin gimbals.
The new RS 3 and RS 3 Pro use Dual Mode Bluetooth to support wireless shutter control to trigger on-stabilizer recording. Once users have paired their camera the first time, it will automatically reconnect, eliminating the need for a trigger cable, saving time and effort.
The DJI RS 3 Pro Gimbal Stabilizer incorporates Ronin-series features, providing advanced operating modes for pro videographers and camera crews. To better accommodate cameras like the Sony FX6 or Canon C70, the RS 3 Pro has an extended carbon fiber axis arm that provides an additional balancing, a tilt-axis fine-tuning knob, and an extended lower quick release plate for mounting lens support and increased stability.
The LiDAR Range Finder has the same chip as the one on the Ronin 4D and a built-in 30mm camera, giving similar ActiveTrack Pro focus and gimbal tracking capabilities. That will allow pro cameras to maintain steady, clear shots in “even more dynamic scenarios,” DJI said.
The RS3 Pro’s focus motor now provides three times more torque, enabling autofocus on manual lenses with no need for repetitive calibration.
DJI has also announced that it’s selling the DJI Transmission remote control/monitor seen with the Ronin 4D as a separate device. It uses DJI’s O3 tech used on drones like the Mavic 3, transmitting video in 1080p/60fps at a ground range of up to 20,000 feet with end-to-end ultra-low latency. Monitoring is done via the 7-inch, 1,500-nit High-Bright Remote Monitor.
The wireless system supports up to 1080p60 video at a maximum rate of 50 Mb/s, 16-bit 48kHz audio, and AES 256-bit encryption. Multipoint transmitting enables more than one crew member to view the live video and audio feed, and a DFS band with triple-band frequency hopping minimizes interference between multiple devices.
Besides the integrated receiver, the 1920 x 1080 High-Bright Remote monitor shines with features like a motion control function for the RS 2 or RS 3 Pro, a touchscreen interface, a virtual joystick and focus wheel, and support for multiple imaging functions like LUT input, peaking, and waveform monitoring. Compatibility with the Ronin 4D handgrips, DJI Master Wheels, and the DJI Force Pro controller allows users to use the monitor for a run/stop recording and focus and exposure control. Additional monitor features include microSD card recording, a webcam mode, and control for select mirrorless cameras when used with the RS 3 Pro. Power options for both the video transmitter and the monitor include the DJI WB37 battery, Sony L-Series adapter and batteries, and third-party V-Mount adapters and batteries.
The Ronin RS 3 Pro has dual RSA/NATO and battery ports that allow it to connect to a wide range of accessories, including the new Briefcase Handle.
The RS3 Pro is now available starting at $870 or $1,100 in a combo with an extended quick release plate, phone holder, focus motor and kit, Ronin Image Transmitter and more.
