Lawo’s new software-based control interface is crafted for both seasoned professionals and the next generation of radio talent, who prioritise creativity and storytelling over technical complexity.
Lawo has introduced its latest innovation in radio production, the crystal Clear Virtual OnAir Control Interface, which made its debut at IBC 2024. This advanced virtual control solution is designed to transform radio content creation and delivery, catering to both in-studio and remote environments.
The crystal Clear interface reflects Lawo’s insight into the evolving demands of modern radio broadcasters who are increasingly adopting virtual mixing solutions for streamlined workflows. This new software-based control system is intended for both experienced professionals and emerging radio talent, emphasising ease of use and creative storytelling over technical complexity. It replaces traditional, complex hardware with a user-friendly, touchscreen-operated control surface that integrates seamlessly with existing systems.
The interface features two primary views: a Self-Op mode for radio hosts with minimal technical expertise, and a Broadcast Engineer view for those needing advanced functionality. Its assistive technologies include automation features such as automatic mic input gain, fade in/out and AutoMix groups, which enable hands-free mixing and allow hosts to focus on audience engagement. The crystal Clear software integrates playout systems, web sources, audio control and social media tools into a single, cohesive interface, reducing the need for multiple displays and controls.
Designed for ease of use, crystal Clear operates “out of the box” with minimal setup or configuration. Its Automation Assistant mode allows users to automate routine tasks, displaying only the necessary controls to minimise distractions and facilitate smooth live broadcasts.
As radio production increasingly shifts to remote and decentralised workflows, crystal Clear meets the needs of broadcasters working outside traditional studios. Its modular design supports both fixed installations and ad-hoc setups, offering flexibility for home studios, mobile units and live broadcasts.
Crystal Clear sets a new standard in broadcast control solutions with its performance-to-cost ratio. By consolidating multiple control systems into one software-based interface, it reduces equipment costs and studio clutter while enhancing operational efficiency.
The crystal Clear interface pairs seamlessly with Lawo’s Power Core Modular I/O and DSP device. Users can select from various Power Core licenses based on their studio and channel requirements, including Console Compact for smaller studios and remote setups, and Console MAX for larger, independent radio consoles. For extending or distributing local I/O, such as microphones and headphones, the Lawo Audio I/O Extender (AIOX) is a suitable companion.
