Nxtedition is also a participant in one of eight new projects selected for the 2024 IBC Accelerator Media Innovation Programme.
Nxtedition is set to showcase its agile, microservices-based approach to storytelling at IBC 2024, taking place from September 13-16.
Visitors to the event will have the chance to use a VR headset to virtually operate a fully automated XR mixed-reality studio gallery from anywhere in the world. This immersive experience demonstrates the integration of XR mixed reality into live production workflows, allowing users to navigate the studio interface with ease. This innovation is part of the IBC Accelerator project “Evolution of the Control Room – Leveraging XR, Voice, AI & HTML-Based Graphics Solutions,” in which nxtedition is a participant.
In line with nxtedition’s ethos of utilising open-source AI for security and cost savings, this year’s IBC will highlight the integration of Meta’s open-source Llama 3 large language model (LLM) into the nxtedition platform. This enhances search functionality, enabling users to query content using natural language, and simplifies content discovery by understanding semantic requests. The integration of Llama 3 with OpenAI’s Whisper for voice-to-text transcription also automates content title and description generation for social media posts, providing cost-free efficiency.
Nxtedition’s platform features its own non-linear editor (NLE) for simple rough cuts and voiceovers, which can be exported to industry-standard editing software. The latest version, nxt|edit, includes AI-assisted text editing, additional graphics and audio tracks, audio metering, seamless integration with DaVinci Resolve, automated thumbnail previews and a new map view displaying the GPS location of any asset.
Nxtedition’s participation in the IBC Accelerator Media Innovation Programme project “Evolution of the Control Room” explores the use of XR, voice, AI, and HTML-based graphics technologies to optimise live production workflows. This aims to empower production teams to achieve their creative visions without advanced technical expertise.
Through its microservices approach, nxtedition consolidates functions typically spread across multiple legacy systems, including scriptwriting, content acquisition, media management, live on-air automation, channel playout, and publishing to various platforms like VOD, web, and social media. This allows users to collaborate on scripts, media and rundowns seamlessly.
Adam Leah, Creative Director at nxtedition, said: “We’re proud to offer media professionals intuitive tools that enhance agility and productivity, while providing a predictable cost of ownership through our fully deployable on-premise, hybrid, or cloud-agnostic solution. IBC provides a perfect opportunity for us to demonstrate how these innovations consolidate diverse functionalities into seamless workflows, empowering teams to achieve their creative visions efficiently and effectively.”
