RED has announced the launch of the RED Komodo 6K Super35 camera, its smallest camera to date. Although several custom colour and white Komodos were available in the beta phase, the current release is in black.
The RED Komodo is available in the Middle East and Africa only through Dubai-based distributor Advanced Media Trading LLC. The distributor is taking orders at the moment for this camera with a few units scheduled to arrive later this month. While the base package is available at USD 6000, the entire production package costs less than USD 9000.
With a super35mm sized sensor, the Komodo promises unparalleled image quality, phase-detect focus, colour science and global shutter sensor technology. Komodo claims to capture fast-moving action without blurred or curved lines. The camera has a dynamic range of 16+ stops, with a max 120fps at 2K or 40fps at 6K when recording RED RAW or ProRes.
The camera features a high-resolution touch screen which aims to let users easily preview content and navigate menus. Importantly, the camera can be controlled over wifi.
Weighing less than a kilogram (without body cap and Cfast card), Komodo features two slots for BP-9XX series batteries. It also features Integrated dual channel digital mono microphones and additional dual-channel via integrated 3.5mm audio jack which offers uncompressed 24-bit 48 kHz sound.
Komodo’s Canon RF style lens mount looks to provide flexibility and compatibility with a wide array of EF and PL lenses and the ability to leverage adapters and internal filters.
The camera has been used in high-end productions including feature films like The Matrix 4, Jurassic World: Dominion and The Suicide Squad.
