The standard V-RAPTOR [X] prices start at $29,995, with the XL version at $44,995.
RED has announced the immediate availability of the RED V-RAPTOR [X] and RED V-RAPTOR XL [X] models, featuring an integrated global shutter and accompanied by the introduction of the RED Compact EVF Pack.
The RED Digital V-RAPTOR [X] stands out as a large-format camera equipped with an integrated global shutter and an 8K VV image sensor. Retaining key features from its predecessor, including two 12G-SDI ports, a Canon RF lens mount, and a CFexpress Type B media slot capable of recording content at up to 800 Mb/s in stunning 8K resolution at 120p. Enhanced audio pre-amps and a redesigned sensor cavity contribute to improved audio and video performance.
The RED Global Vision introduces a host of tools for global shutter sensors, enhancing highlights for detailed HDR finishes and enabling a soft roll-off for SDR applications. Innovations like Phantom Track streamline virtual production by recording at 120 fps, supporting green-screen effects for talent reactions, green screen visuals, and motion markers for visual effects teams. This works seamlessly with GhostFrame or Frame Remapping, allowing the capture of distinct R3D clips per sub-frame and live monitoring over each SDI port.
The V-RAPTOR [X] and DSMC3 platform are now IP-connected for remote control and monitoring, integrating seamlessly with Frame.io. Additional functions include AWS direct upload, RED Connect for live 8K R3D video over IP, or live 4K over SMPTE ST 2110.
The release includes a base camera system and a starter pack for the V-RAPTOR [X]. The base system comprises the main camera, a travel adapter kit, and a 150W AC power pack. The starter pack expands on this with a DSMC3 RED 7″ LCD monitor, a 2TB CFexpress card, CFexpress card reader, two MICRO-V batteries, a dual V-mount charger, timecode cable, and two wing grips.
The V-RAPTOR XL [X] extends the same features as the [X] model into a larger-scale, production-ready camera body. It incorporates dual-voltage battery support, built-in electronic ND filters, auxiliary power outputs, and front-facing 3G-SDI and 2-pin power connectors for camera monitor integration. Additional features such as wireless timecode, Genlock, camera control, and four SDI outputs facilitate DITs in pulling footage off the camera for dailies and file intake.
Buyers can choose between V-mount and Gold Mount editions of the base V-RAPTOR XL [X] system or the production packs, which include the main camera with a Gold or V–battery mount, ARRI PL lens mount, shim pack, 270W AC power adapter, and a 3-pin XLR to 4-pin 2B power cable. Production packs add the DSMC3 RED 7″ LCD monitor, a 2TB CFexpress card, CFexpress card reader, four REDVOLT XL batteries, a dual battery charger, and 15mm LWS rod-support components for handheld configurations.
RED also caters to existing V-RAPTOR camera owners looking to upgrade to an [X] model, offering upgrade kits for both V-RAPTOR 8K VV and V-RAPTOR 6K Super35 to the V-RAPTOR [X] 8K VV, and an upgrade kit for the V-RAPTOR XL 8K VV to the V-RAPTOR XL [X] 8K VV.
Simultaneously, alongside the V-RAPTOR [X] release, RED has introduced the DSMC3 Compact EVF, a new iteration of the DSMC2 EVF. Serving as a single-cable monitoring solution for DSMC3 camera systems, the DSMC3 EVF features a 1080p micro-OLED display with user-assignable buttons, adjustable diopter, quick-connect mount, and ¼” mount plate for third-party compatibility. Mount adapters, cables, and extension arms are available for seamless integration into KOMODO-X, V-RAPTOR, or V-RAPTOR XL camera configurations.
RED Digital Cinema President Jarred Land said: “Ever since our sensor team cracked the code for a no-compromise global shutter sensor design in the original KOMODO, customers have been pushing us hard to bring our global shutter technology to our large-format sensors, and today we are happy to deliver beyond our wildest expectations. We are very proud to not only be at the forefront of global shutter technology but also to be the first company delivering large format global shutter cameras to filmmakers.”
