The HDC-P50A came will be shown on the Sony stand in the Elicium at IBC 2024 in Amsterdam.
Sony Middle East and Africa has introduced the HDC-P50A, a compact and lightweight multi-purpose camera featuring a 2/3-inch 3-chip 4K image sensor with a global shutter function. This camera offers high flexibility in installation and comes with optional licenses to enhance functionality.
The HDC-P50A inherits the performance and features of Sony’s existing HDC-P50 camera, while adding support for IP transmission using the SMPTE ST 2110 standard, widely adopted in broadcasting and live production. In addition to SDI outputs, the camera can connect to a camera control unit (CCU) for remote operation, even in distant shooting environments. Its compact design makes it hard-to-reach locations, aerial shots and wire cam setups. The optional HKC-VND50 variable ND filter adds to its versatility.
Part of Sony’s Networked Live ecosystem, the HDC-P50A supports IP-based centralised monitoring and remote operation via the CNA-2 camera control network adapter. It also integrates seamlessly with Sony’s existing systems, due to its 2/3-inch 3-chip 4K sensor and prism, delivering the same high-quality colour reproduction as the HDC-3500 and HDC-5500 models.
“We’re seeing an increasing demand for high-quality video production in events such as sports and live performances, as well as a growing need for automation and IP compatibility in live production. With the release of this camera, Sony aims to meet the ever-diversifying needs of the video production industry”, said Norbert Paquet, Head of Live Production, Sony Europe BV.
The camera’s IP capabilities are further enhanced with the optional HZC-SFP5A license, enabling direct IP output via SMPTE ST 2110, AMWA NMOS compatibility and IP Tally support. This makes it a powerful option for IP-based studios without the need for additional hardware. It can also be paired with the HDCE-TX50 IP camera extension adapter or CCUs like the HDCU-5000 and HDCU-5500 for long-distance connections of up to 10km, which makes it suitable for remote broadcasts such as golf tournaments.
The HDC-P50A is also equipped for high-frame-rate (HFR) shooting, offering up to 4x speed in 4K and 8x speed in HD when connected to the appropriate CCUs and licensed software. The camera covers a wide colour gamut, including BT.2020 and S-Gamut3, making it easy to integrate with existing systems.
The HDC-P50A will be showcased at IBC 2024 in Amsterdam at Sony’s stand in the Elicium.
